The Algarve has a great all year round climate. There are many places to visit of interest to visit. This moorish architecture survives from the time of the Arabs who dominated the area for 500 years: local dialects use Arabic words, there are churches, there are churches which were once mosques, and North African influence can be heard in the mournful music of the region. Silves, was the capital of the Algarve in Moorish times. (Then known as Xeib). Its points of interest include its majestic, restored Moorish castle, its Gothic cathedral and the ‘Cruz da Portugal’.Tavira is an ancient port as its seven-arched bridge dating from Roman times testifies. The town centre is a maze of picturesque stairways and alleys. The church of Our Lady of Mercy (Misericordia) is considered to be the most beautiful in the Algarve. Alvor is situated about 6 km (4 miles) further west. The village has given its name to a resort centre with a 14 km (9 mile) long sandy beach.Lagos, about 115 km (71 miles) west of Faro, was founded in Roman times. A monument to Price Henry the Navigator is located on a square whose paving suggest the waves of the sea. The beaches, located outside the town are strewn with craggy towers and pyramids, caves and grottos. Here also is the famous natural arch, the Ponta da Pledade.Sagres, a 33 km (20 miles) west of Lagos, closely connected with the work of Prince Henry the Navigator, marks the end of the Algarve as well as the end of the continent: Cabo de Sao Vicente, just 6 km (4 miles) away, is Europe’s south western most point.Guia is situated about 7 km (NW) from Albufeira and has a population of about 700, but has 20 restaurants! It's mainly Chicken Piri Piri - bar-b-qued chicken with a light 'chilli' liquid put on it, served with chips and a wonderful oregano mixed salad, it's mouth watering.

Hi Steve, Just wanted to drop you and your wife a line to say how much we enjoyed staying at Casa Romantica for the first week of our holiday in Portugal. Your villa is absolutely superb and was everything we could have wished for. We had great fun in the pool and exploring that part of the Algarve - swimming with dolphins at the Zoomarine being one of the memorable outings. I know we'd like to stay there again at some point in the future - especially when our youngest is old enough to do the dolphin swim as well, instead of having to be an envious spectator! Thanks again and best regards, Andy (The Latcham family from Bushey in Hertfordshire…..)
Hi Steve, Just back from a very enjoyable holiday, the villa was wonderful, I don't think your pictures in the web really do it justice. We were able to walk easily into the town and sample some of the local restaurants. We were also well placed to visit various places of interest - Silves, Lagoa, Luz, and the highlight for the children was a visit to both Aqualand and Slide and Splash, the former being a lot less busy but we thought the latter had rides which were more fun. Regards,Gavin Price. (From Wilmslow in Cheshire)
